Our history

DegreeMentors was founded in 2023 by Norair Khalafyan and Arman Tarverdyan, two friends who grew up in Glendale's Armenian community and knew firsthand how overwhelming the college process can be. After navigating it themselves, they made a simple decision: turn what they learned into guidance for others. What started as helping fellow Armenian students quickly grew into something bigger. Today, DegreeMentors serves students from all backgrounds, but the mission remains the same: making expert academic advice accessible, personal, and rooted in real experience.

Questions

What services does DegreeMentors offer?

We offer personalized admissions consulting for undergraduate, graduate, and professional school applicants. Our services include essay brainstorming and editing, activity list optimization, school list strategy, interview prep, and FAFSA support. We also offer year-round annual consulting for students who want ongoing mentorship throughout high school or college.

When should I start working with a mentor?

The earlier the better. For undergraduate applicants, starting junior year gives us time to help shape your extracurricular profile and plan your application strategy. For law, medical, or dental school, we recommend starting at least 6–9 months before your application deadline. That said, we work with students on tight timelines too.

What happens during the first consultation?

We'll discuss your academic background, goals, and target schools. From there, we build a personalized plan covering your essays, activities, school list, and timeline. The first call is free and there's no obligation to sign up.

How are your services priced?

Pricing depends on the service. Undergraduate packages start at $1,800 for Common App and $3,500 for UC applications. Graduate programs start at $3,800. FAFSA support is $1,000. We're upfront about costs — no hidden fees. You can view full pricing on our comparison page.

What's your track record?

Since 2023, we've worked with over 1,400 students with a 92% acceptance rate to their target schools. Our students have collectively secured over $7 million in scholarships.
